The Kettering Rotary Club is proud to announce the winners of the 2012 Student Awards, which are presented annually during the month of March to students from both Fairmont and Alter High Schools. In presenting these awards, the Kettering Rotary Club acknowledges the various skills and achievements of local high school students and provides significant financial awards to the students in four categories. The 2012 winner of the Four-Way Test speech contest was Melanie West of Fairmont High School, with second place awarded to Caroline Grogan, also of Fairmont.  As the winner of the local contest, Ms. West will now advance to the District speech contest to be held at Wittenberg College on April 15.

 

The Leadership Award winners were presented to Kira Osowski from Alter High School and Saleh Hindi from Fairmont High School.  This award is presented to a junior student from each school who has demonstrated leadership qualities both academically and socially.  The recipients received a cash award as well as the opportunity to attend the District RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) program to be held at Camp Kern this summer.

The Academic Excellence Awards were presented to Corinn Herrick from Fairmont High School and Alexandra Ricard from Alter High School.  This award also comes with a cash award and is presented to seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement throughout their high school career.

The Overcoming Adversity Awards were presented to Thomas Chuna from Fairmont High School and Tyler Heckman from Alter High School. This award also comes with a cash award and is presented to students who have overcome personal hardships and who have succeeded where others would have failed.
