Meeting Notes 7/20/11

President Brenda kicked off the meeting with two items of good news: 1) 27 years ago today she gave birth to her son and 2) thanks to her new bifocals (courtesy of our own Marc Gilbert) she can now read the engraving on the podium bell.

Tim Leist introduced many guests—five, I think!

One of those guests, former District Governor Norma Berry, made several presentations. She recognized Tom Minnich for his work as one of her Assistant District Governors; she thanked Wende Wright for her contributions to the district, particularly through her work on the silent auction at the district conference; and she delivered a Presidential Citation for the Club! The Kettering Rotary Club is one of only 15 clubs in our district of 50 clubs to receive this recognition from Rotary International.

Brenda announced a district fundraiser raffling off a Paul Harris fellowship. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. They can be purchased from the district website. need practice. Don’t we sound great every week?!?!?!

Matt Wahrhaftig was SAA. He fined the following:

· Brenda $5 for a variety of offenses. Tip: Brenda, don’t tell the SAA that you have lots of money!

· Harry Lodapp won the Tim McCrate Award

· Wende Wright for her recent surge in attendance

· Kevin Talley for not joining the club sooner (and Welcome to the Club!)

He followed that up with some moon trivia, which was too hard and somewhat disturbing. Really? 13% of the population believes that the moon is made up of cheese?

Happy dollars included:

· Woody Stroud celebrating his 70th birthday

· Tim McCrate is welcoming his daughter home from travelling overseas

Don Walls introduced our speaker, Dr. Karen Wonders. She is an associate professor of sports science at Wright State and she told us about the new organization that she is starting to use exercise to assist cancer patients through all phases of their treatments. The Maple Tree Cancer Alliance will focus on three areas: 1) exercise training, 2) nutrition counseling and 3) fellowship. They have just received their non-profit certification and are currently looking for a location, seeking donors and getting out to spread the word about the organization.

Next week our new District Governor, Uta, will be joining us.

Super Size Luck of the Draw: the pot is over $1100. Mike Balsom had the winning ticket, but not the wining card. There are now 7 cards left.

Brenda concluded the meeting at 12:55 p.m.
