The Kettering Rotary Club was allowed to seek a charter after District Governor, Dr. David Warner of the Xenia Rotary Club, interceded and asked the Miamisburg Rotary Club to sponsor the Kettering group. The Kettering Rotary Club was formally organized on December 18, 1963, in the very active, progressive and growing community of Kettering, Ohio. There were thirty-three charter members that began Kettering Rotary. Our last charter member, Chester Roush passed away in 2013.

KRC has sponsored many projects over the years. There has been an ongoing relationship with our sister city, Kettering, England with many exchange visits. "Windows on the World" was a program that brought renowned speakers to the community four times a year. "Operation Boredom" was a nine-event summer youth program in cooperation with the Kettering Park and Recreation Department.

College education scholarships have a long history as the driving force behind fund raising activities of the club. In 1998 we added the "STRIVE" program that matches KRC members with local high school seniors in the bottom third of their class to help them stay in school, achieve better grades, build self confidence about preparing for the world of work, graduate and continue their education in preparation for their future. At least three scholarships, equivalent to the cost of one year at Sinclair Community College, are awarded to the most improved STRIVE students at Fairmont High School each year.

The STRIVE program is funded by our annual fund raiser events. Rotarians spearhead several fundraisers, which helps raise money to fund our STRIVE scholarships.

Kettering Rotary participates in the "PolioPlus" program to help eliminate polio from the world's children. We have also provided funding for development of water, sewage and electric services for homes in El Salvador. KRC provided Xenia tornado relief money to help the victims of this tragedy.

Another of our popular fund-raisers is our annual golf outing. This is a fun anual event that raises operating funds for student recognition, club activities and projects.

In 2000 we revised our Christmas Party for the children of Parkside Homes. The Club provided gifts for every child in attendance as well as refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus and Freckles the Clown. We have continued the Christmas Party for children in a large Kettering low income apartment project.

KRC helps to provide stuffed animals for the children hospitalized at Children's Medical Center and the Ronald McDonald House.

Two of our members traveled out of the country to help with polio innoculation and medical missionary work.

We were proud to establish the "Service Above Self Award" to honor Club members who have exemplified what Rotary stands for and practices it in their daily lives. His award is presented annually to a worthy Kettering Rotary Club member.

Kettering Rotary has reached out into the community in many ways to help make Kettering and the world a better place to live, work and play. This is also our goal for the future.
