African Photo Safari
Dec. 02, 2020
From Paul: "While I spent my career in software development, I always had a passion for photography. I had a darkroom for years and loved making prints. I used to exhibit black and white prints wherever I could but those days and the darkroom are long gone. My wife and I also love to travel so that lends itself to my photography hobby. Africa, specifically provides opportunities for several of my favorite subject matter, landscapes and action shots. The presentation will be a combination of photos and video showing the completely different world of an African safari, with plenty of the stories behind the photos." |

The arcade has been abandoned since 1991, and the present revitalization is the first activity in the complex since that time. Bill Woody is a photographer from Beavercreek, Ohio who has been pursuing his art since 1970. Recent projects have included grand scenics and mining towns of the old west, Dance in Old Havana, and an industrial project at the Silo City Photographic Workshops in Buffalo NY. Bill has photographed the Ballet since the 80’s. He contributed general photography for a recent book project: “Gems of the Greater Dayton Region.” Bill is past president of Dayton’s Tripod Camera Club. He has taught workshops on photography in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and Arizona, and has been juror for many photography exhibitions. His first one-man show was in Beavercreek in 1995. Exploring Human Potential
Mar. 24, 2021
Dale Graff will explain how traumatic events on Canadian rivers and a Kettering, OH school program led to his interest in the science and application potential of human abilities referred to as psi phenomena that include intuition, remote viewing, ESP, and precognition. He provides examples from Star Gate, a 20 year government program that investigated the phenomena. Search projects for missing airplanes, captives and fugitives are reviewed. He explains how the phenomenon can be experienced either awake or dreaming, and discusses theoretical explanatory concepts based on quantum physics. Recent research is on retrocausation (when time flows backwards), synchronicity, and lucid dreaming. He concludes that psi is a natural and holistic aspect of our subconscious mind and that anyone can explore their psi potential. Dale E. Graff is a retired aerospace engineer/physicist who worked for the intelligence community at the Air Force Foreign Technology Division (FTD, now the National Air and Space Intelligence Center), Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). As a systems analyst he performed threat assessments for emerging Soviet missile systems and technologies at FTD. One assignment was the contract manager for remote viewing research at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), Menlo Park, CA. At DIA, Dale was the Chief of the Advanced Concepts Office and Chief/Director of the Star Gate remote viewing unit at Ft. Meade, MD. Currently he facilitates seminars, workshops, and pursues independent research on psi phenomena: ESP, remote viewing and precognitive dreaming. His published books include Tracks in the Psychic Wilderness and River Dreams. He has been interviewed on Good Morning America and several TV documentaries, including Third Eye Spies. |

Apr. 07, 2021
"Some say I was vaccinated with phonograph needle. As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be on the radio. When I was a little kid, my grandparents had a big console radio in their living room and I used to listen to our local announcers on that radio. I vowed, “someday my voice is going to come out of that thing” and sure enough it did!" - Jerry Halasz

Good Neighbor House Medical Clinic Expansion
Apr. 14, 2021
Michelle Collier, MPA, Chief Operating Officer, and Marcia Ehlers, Assistant Director of Human Services and Outreach will discuss the Good Neighbor House medical clinic expansion. Good Neighbor House offers a full range of human and health services to the community as we collaborate with many local agencies to assist clients. Our services are in consideration of our neighbors and their needs. We currently offer: dental clinic, medical clinic, eye clinic, special dietary needs program, counseling, pharmaceutical dispensary, and a food pantry. Today our uninsured neighbors are facing a great vulnerability because of increases in unemployment, loss of health insurance, and overall insecurity due to COVID 19. Just as soon as the pandemic arrived, Reach Out of Montgomery County, a charitable clinic, closed their doors, effectively leaving thousands of people in need of family medicine, a pharmacy, behavioral health, and physical therapy. We worked with Montgomery County and other key players to open a pharmaceutical dispensary in May to provide an average of 130 prescriptions per month valued at $40,000. By the end of the year, we had all of the associated programs in our clinic, in addition to the services we were already providing. Around the same time, Soin Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency Program joined our medical clinic, which allowed us to increase patient volume and double available appointments. By the end of the year, we had outgrown our physical space. You can provide necessary and quality care to our uninsured neighbors through your support of our medical clinic expansion project. |

The Unforgettables
Apr. 28, 2021
The greatest tragedy is the death of a child that can come upon a family. The Unforgettables Foundation was created as a response to an unrecognized gap almost a generation ago. Since 2000, The Unforgettables Foundation (TUF), which was founded by Tim Evans, a children's hospital chaplain, along with other community leaders, has helped families struggling to afford a simple and timely funeral for their child. They have given out hundreds of thousands of dollars to over 5000 cases where parents were struggling to afford a simple timely funeral for their child. Jared Still founded the Ohio Chapter of the Unforgettables Foundation in the local area, The Unforgettables Foundation of Southern Ohio, which is to enable low-income families to give their children a dignified burial. Jared has a passion for giving back to the local area. One of the main reason Jared has looked into starting a foundation was because of the sudden loss of his brother Greg back in 2005. He understands and empathizes with families that are going through the grieving process and is wanting to make this process for families as dignified as possible. |

Author: Hockey in Dayton
May 05, 2021
Chuck Gabringer is a Dayton hockey historian and lifelong resident of the city. His family's ties to hockey date back to the beginning of the Dayton Gems in 1964. He was a member of the Dayton Hockey Hall of Fame election committee and one of the organizers of the Lefty McFadden College Hockey Invitational, which took place at the Ervin J. Nutter Center from 2002 to 2007. In the 1950s, crowds that equaled half the city of Troy's population filled the newly constructed 3,900-seat Hobart Arena to watch the area's first hockey team, the Troy Bruins, take the ice. In the 1960s and 1970s, fans packed one of hockey's great "barns," Hara Arena, to watch the Dayton Gems become one of the more well-known and successful franchises in all of professional hockey. In the 1990s and 2000s, it was the Dayton Bombers that reignited the area's love for hockey. 'Hockey in Dayton' tells the story of the teams, players, people, and events that have permanently frozen hockey's place in the history of Dayton area sports. |
