“A Transylvanian in the Midwest” Aurelian will talk about his musical family, growing up in Romania, and how he ended up here in Dayton.
Bio:
Associate Concertmaster Aurelian Oprea was born in Cluj-Napoca, the cultural capital of Romania’s Transylvania region. His parents and grandfather were string players in the Romanian National Opera House Orchestra, and his grandmother was the prima ballerina of the Opera’s ballet corps. Aurelian began playing the violin in the first grade, and he graduated in 1995 from the city’s music school with a Baccalaureate Degree in Violin Performance. He served as the music school’s concertmaster and frequently performed as a guest soloist with several Romanian orchestras. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Bowling Green State University in 1999, where he also won a Concerto Competition. Aurelian won his first professional audition at the age of 20, becoming the youngest member of the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra in Detroit, a position he held until 2000 when he joined the DPO. Aurelian is fluent in Romanian, Hungarian and English. He resides in Grafton Hill with his wife, Rachel, and his daughter, Hanna

Bill is responsible for the finance, human resources, information technology, marketing and business operations for the park district. He lives in Kettering with his wife, two children and two dogs who love visiting Hills & Dales MetroPark as often as possible. Don't miss this presentation about a subject that is in constant flux and changing rapidly. Every business needs to understand this law and what it means. For over fifteen years, Jennifer and Nicole have defended employers in workers’ compensation and employment related claims. They represent and counsel various national clients, including industrial leasing, skilled temporary companies, heavy equipment operators, restaurants, construction companies, foundries, health care facilities, manufacturers, and factories regarding employment and workers’ compensation matters. In addition to defending clients in the Common Pleas and Appellate Courts of Ohio and Kentucky, they represent employers in front of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and Industrial Commission. Jennifer and Nicole routinely present at Ohio Chambers of Commerce meetings and Bureau of Workers’ Compensation safety seminars. They also provide seminars for employers, industry trade groups, and third-party administrators across the state. Jennifer and Nicole were repeat speakers in March at the 2019 Ohio BWC Safety Congress in Columbus, where they educated attendees on drug testing and other workers’ compensation issues. Living off the grid and off the beaten path in New Zealand

Barbara Corcoran was raised in an Army family with moves around the country, Germany, and Iran. She moved to New Zealand in 1986 to marry her Liverpudlian husband John, and have six children and nine grandchildren between them. This talk focuses on the couple’s experience of building and living in an off-grid house in a remote corner of the South Island’s high country. The talk will cover the process of planning and building the home on a 17 acre mini-farm, which included water collection, solar electricity, solar hot water, and other eco-friendly features. In her and John’s years living quite an alternative lifestyle in Burkes Pass, they learned what worked and what didn’t and shared their experience with their builders to use as needed. |

Michelle Beebe has been the Manager for Perinatal Outreach and Childbirth Education for the Kettering Health Network and is also the daughter of two Rotarians. Michelle’s passion is to empower people to optimal health through education. Michelle graduated from La Sierra University with a degree in Biology. Following graduation she spent time volunteering for ADRA Kenya working with a clean water project. Upon returning to the US she completed a second Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Public Health in Epidemiology. Michelle has worked in Women’s and Children’s healthcare for the last 26 years in various capacities in multiple areas including NICU, PICU, Mother-Baby, Pediatric Clinics, Special Infectious Disease, Research, Reproductive Medicine, Nursing Education and Childbirth Education. The consummate educator Michelle always enjoys the opportunity to spend time with students. Michelle has served the community on the Montgomery County Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Coalition, EveryOne Reach One Dayton & Montgomery County Infant Mortality Task Force, and also as a member of the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association. |

Lindsey Curry is the Fitness and Wellness Supervisor for the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. She has worked for the City of Kettering for 7 years and oversees the Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center, the fitness center at the Kettering Recreation Complex, Group Exercise at both facilities and all fitness and wellness initiatives. Lindsey graduated from Missouri Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. She is an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Specialist and Youth Fitness Specialist. She is the Vice Chair of the Employee Wellness Program for the City of Kettering and also sits on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee for the City of Kettering. Lindsey resides in Kettering with her daughters ages 2 and 4. She loves to live, work and play in the wonderful Kettering Community!

Miami Valley Tornadoes and Oregon District Shooting, Response and Recovery

The American Red Cross prepares for, responds to, and helps the community recover from disaster. We will discuss our actions for the last 75 days and what you can do to be prepared for the next disaster.
Bio:Cory Paul is the Executive Director of the Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. His responsibilities include recruiting and developing local volunteers, fundraising, and development of a strong board of directors and leaders. The Red Cross aims to multiply the generosity and kindness of our community. He also serves as the Co-Chair for the National Diversity and Inclusion Veterans+ Advisory Board.
Cory is a combat veteran and served honorably for 6 years with the Ohio Army National Guard. In 2013, he deployed to Qalat, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Cory got his start with the Red Cross as a volunteer for the Disaster Action Team where he provided financial assistance and emotional support to families that had experienced a house fire or other disaster. He was hired as Disaster Program Manager where he coordinated volunteers and partner agencies to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. After his deployment, Cory returned to the Red Cross and resumed his role as Disaster Program Manager. In late 2015, he was honored to accept a position as Regional Director of Service to the Armed Forces in Cincinnati where he coordinated volunteers to support America’s military and veteran families in 27 counties in the Tri-State area. Cory is a proud graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Criminology. While at OU, Cory worked for Outdoor Pursuits as a SCUBA Leadership Divemaster.In his spare time, Cory maintains a historical pre-Civil War homestead near Dayton. He enjoys camping, hiking and canoeing with his wife, Jess, and walking his dog, Oatmeal. Cory and Jess have one daughter, Adeline.
